I began my career in the retail side of the book business, founding and operating a chain of independent bookstores, Under Cover Books of Cleveland, Ohio. The judgment I gained from seven years as an independent bookseller still informs my editorial instincts today, twenty-three years after I became an editor. I remain a bookseller/editor, a rare combination among editors today.
I have directed several thematically-driven imprints of narrative nonfiction, "purpose-driven" imprints. Now working independently under the rubric of Philip Turner Book Productions, I continue to develop, edit, and package imperative books by and about truthtellers, whistleblowers, muckrakers and revisionist historians, the specialty for which I have become well known. I am devoted to editing and publishing books that chronicle miscarriages of justice, social issues, the wrongfully accused, errors of historical understanding, unique achievements, and revelatory discoveries. In turn, I represent these projects as a book producer to publishers.
I am a reader's editor, as well as an advocate for writers, never forgetting the audience and readership of a book I am developing and editing.
Services offered:
Full line editing of manuscripts; consultation with authors seeking collaborators/ghost writers; development and enhancement of their public platforms; drafting and revising book proposals; developing ideas into books.
