WHAT YOU & YOUR DOCTOR NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ADDICTION & RECOVERY: 101 Lessons That Could Save Your Life! by Dawn Obrecht, MD. Pragmatic advice and inspirational stories for men and women at any phase of their recovery from alcoholism and other addictions, from seeing through the fog to becoming the person they are meant to be. The author survived two suicide attempts and a nearly-hatched plan to drive off a Rocky Mountain cliff with her two young daughters before launching her 27 years of recovery. An MD Addictionist, she opens her notebook of professional and personal experiences to reveal what addicts really need to know and are not always taught by doctors and therapists. In the section "Your Doctor, Your Pusher," she sounds the alarm to doctors and therapists to gain a broader understanding of the needs of those wrestling with addiction. Seeking an agent.
DAMAGE CONTROL: A Brain Injury Survivor Helps You Beat the Odds by Phil Slott. Every 15 seconds, someone in the U.S. suffers a traumatic brain injury (TBI) from car crashes, sports accidents, combat missions, simple falls at home, or shootings such as the injuries suffered by Congresswoman Gabriella Giffords. The author was nearly killed when a drunk driver slammed into his motorcycle in Hawaii, and his 17 years of recovery since then inspired this how-to guide with the personal qualities of a dynamic memoir. Seeking an agent.
THE PROMISE: A World War I Soldier's Vow and the Grandson Who Set out to Fulfill It for the 100-Year Anniversary by Rick Coxen. The author of this timely memoir stumbles upon his grandfather's detailed diary from his combat experiences with the British Royal Field Artillery during many of the bloodiest battles early in World War I. Discovering a solemn vow made by his grandfather and realizing that it was never fulfilled, he embarks on a trail to find the familes of "three chums" left behind. Along the way, he gets swept up in the spirit of the upcoming 100-year anniversary of the War to End All Wars and discovers the role he is destined to play. Seeking an agent.
