Amicus Tremors by david w. hutton ©2009
David Thibeaux, a town boy who grows up in a small farming community, seeks to one day escape and dreams of going to law school. Through diligent hard work and survival of a tumultuous and violent youth, he realizes his dream and finds himself at a prestigious law school in sunny Southern California.
The task seems simple enough to David. He’d enjoy the adjustment from small town farming life to the rapid Southern California lifestyle, graduate and return home to the quiet hills of Tennessee, settle down in his home town and hang his shingle.
But his plan doesn't turn out that way when by way of an Asian girlfriend he meets in California and her back home connections, he is first accused of espionage by the CIA only later to be recruited by them for a "project" overseas to prove his innocence & to exonerate himself. But this "project" turns out wrong...terribly wrong and results in the assassination of a foreign political hopeful. The covert operation almost costs both he and his fellow operatives their lives, only later to discover that the entire episode did, in fact, go exactly as planned - but according to the wishes and designs of the NSA, not the CIA. His own agency disembarks wearing the blood and shame of this great debacle. He surfaces both horrified & disillusioned and with the seed of dangerous dysfunctionalism which is
firmly planted in his soul and one that would later play a major part in shaping the events yet to unfold.
Years later, while vacationing in New Orleans, he meets up with a former college classmate and now madam, Dominique Devereaux, who introduces him to some of her "influential clients." From this introduction he finds himself representing nefarious organized crime associates of the di Capri crime family.
Rising through the trusted ranks of acceptance he begins to utilize his former government acquired intelligence skills to help the mob both steal and launder money, only to be the subject of a federal investigation with other attorneys who turn state evidence against him and suddenly disappear. One, found later in what was determined to be a suicide, while another absconds and is never heard from again.
Drugs, money and beautiful women are the mainstay in this surreal life story where reality and the bizzare are synonymous. Through information provided by Devereaux David narrowly escapes the reaches of the government and secretly retreats to private practice in another small town in far away Nebraska. As he tries to escape the thoughts in his mind, his narcotic addiction grows and he feels as though his life and destiny went unfulfilled and lie elsewhere.
Soon opportunity knocks again and he is appointed Chief Prosecutor for a foreign government. Again his experience and background are called into play as he targets and seeks the upper levels of the Yakuza Japanese mafia who, in turn, seek to kill him through the cooperation and assistance of his most trusted detective & confidantes`. By this time his entire world is engulfed with paranoia and heavy addiction leaving him at the gates of extinction with his only chance of survival lying in the hands of a local island girl who holds the key to his existence and salvation from the real enemies that seek him and the imaginary demons that live within his soul. ©2009
