Mardeene has teamed up with Anglo-Brazilian literary consultant James McSill in the UK and Brazil, who is a consultant to publishing companies, a career manager, and a book doctor with a special love for fiction. He specializes in coaching/mentoring Brazilian and Portuguese writers and works with the top literary agencies in Brazil. He looks forward to working with writers in the U.S. and Mardeene is gearing up to do what she can to help Latin writers get published and produced in the North American market. Each will continue to enjoy working with their writers on their respective continents and simultaneously work to help authors, publishers and producers join forces cross-culturally.

James coaches and mentors Brazilian and Portuguese writers as well as offers consultancy services for publishing companies. All of the fiction writers he has been working with to date have sold their fiction, some selling very well, some awarded prizes.
For the past year, he has been the executive consult for Steps2 (www.steps2.net) in a Portuguese project. Portugal and Brazil are working towards an ambitious long-term project of language unification, which aims to publish Portuguese-speaking authors across both sides of the Atlantic.
James, very popular with Latin speakers all over the world, is much in demand as a speaker and coach for writers at seminars and retreats. This year alone he has been to Spain, Brazil, Portugal, Holland and Ireland. His Write in Rio event for November of 2009, an instructional retreat for major Brazilian authors, was sold out, as are his 2010 retreats in Brasilia and Florianopolis. Join us at Write in Belo Horizonte Oct. 21-24, 2010! In the planning stages are McSill & Mitchell's joint 2nd Annual Write the World in Atlanta for June of 2011. www.write-the-world.com

James has been involved with consulting and book doctoring for over 20 years. He comes from an educational background with a degree as a teacher of English, Portuguese and Latin (Language and Literature), a Masters Degree in applied Linguistics, a diploma in Materials Design and Production (How to structure stuff for publication if you want to really sell it), and courses on educational marketing.
He pioneered TBL--task-based language teaching--hence his involvement as a Collins CoBuild, later acquired by Harper, consultancy. He travelled extensively as a specialist in “how languages work”, “how languages can be used for effect”, etc, and worked alongside top professionals like Gwyneth Fox (Editor of Collins English Dictionary), Jane and David Willis as they wrote ESL, EFL books.
At Birmingham University he became acquainted with computational language analysis, the first to take the idea to Latin America, the first to apply its principles to, then develop what we call ‘plain English’. The first “clients” he had were teachers trying to use the findings of computational analysis (concordances) to write stories or to adapt best-sellers to non-English speakers.
