Some comments made by critique partners:
"The romance is light, sweet and innocent, yet the story is provocative and challenging in the religious sense; you take God out of the box and allow the reader to wonder if we have God all wrong and you handled it in such a delicate way that it wasn’t threatening. I loved it!"
"I can't wait to find out if she chooses to awaken the energy and become God or stay human to be with him. You can tell it’s going to be a challenge as she clearly loves the world and him. Great set up for a series."
"I liked the way you wove in the subplots; the evil Death angels who want to kill her before she awakens, the strife between the angelic orders, and her loneliness and need for a family and how the celestial family all comes together in the end to protect her. Margo, an African American pagan, becoming like a mother figure to her was brilliant! Margo was my favorite character. Molly the quirky Buddhist came in second; I loved the blow horn scene! And then the protagonist's issues with organized religion and lack of respect for free will, we are all thinking what she so bravely says! I vote Emma for God!"
"I really respect the sincerity you brought to this book. It entertaining but it deals with serious issues. I love that each order of angels represents a different race. It’s not the typical all white cast, with one black person. I think you covered everyone. You even gave us a gay angel! Thank you! The football playing Seraphim were a riot, too and their hatred of the Guardians had me on edge. And I couldn’t figure out the historical link between Emma, Ethan and Logan until the very end. Kudos!"
